Flatcaps - Source Images
Flatcaps are the second most common style of 16th century men's headwear. They were varied in shape, size and stiffness, both of the brim and the bag, and are shown both with and without feathers. They in historical images from the 1540s to 1640s, on men young and old, in portraits of royalty and in woodcuts of craftsmen and yeomen. There are extant examples in museums.

Ladies in Flatcaps
Flatcaps appear in various heights, forms, and shapes, on 16th century ladies of a multitude of classes, nationalities, and ages. I did not find them as early for the ladies, really seeing them predominantly in the 1560s and later, but I've hardly looked at every image available. If you see earlier examples, please let me know; I would love to add them here.
